President’s Update: The Future Planning Committee

by Elliott Robinson…

Although on life-support for a brief moment, Center Stage Playhouse is alive and well, re-forming, and making amazing progress in preparation for our upcoming season. We are working diligently to keep the brand going, to uphold its long and illustrious history, and to stay true to its ongoing mission: to provide quality theater at affordable prices to the Bronx community.

Our Future Committee has made great strides in a number of areas that should keep us funded, get us housing, and stay true to that mission statement.

We are developing a relationship with the Locust Point Civic Center in Throggs Neck where we will be able to hold meetings and panel discussions, rehearse, and perform staged readings for little or no cost. They are looking forward to us being an artistic presence in their community.

We are investigating a number of venues for possible permanent residence, and are looking to forge a relationship with the NY Public Library for more scaled down theatrical ventures. We are also investigating the possibility of doing outdoor projects through the NYC Parks Department, including the newly renovated Owen Dolan Center, which will be opening for business very soon.

We are in the midst of planning the 2013–14 season, to include three Main Stage productions, a Staged Reading series, Panel discussions on theater, and various outdoor musical events.

We have created this blog site for Center Stage, to maintain a constant, personal communication with our patrons and colleagues in the theater community. It is live now and ready for your review and participation!  Here’s the link to the online journal’s main page:

We are all very optimistic and thrilled at the direction we’re taking. I personally would like to thank our Future Planning Committee and everyone who has been so closely involved in our efforts thus far, and look forward to more of you joining in helping us further the cause.

Stay tuned for more information and the scheduling of our first general meeting.
